Accessibility
The South Shields Branch of the Durham Light Infantry Association have tried to make this website as accessible as possible to all users with or without disabilities, including users who may have sight difficulties.
The website has been designed to meet accessibility guidelines issued by the W3C which is an international organisation that develops standards for the internet.
Guidance Conformance
This website conforms to the WC3-WAI Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 Level AA(Double A), as indicated by the W3C WAI logo. Pages bearing this logo indicate a claim of conformance by the page author or content provider to conformance level AA of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 including all priority 1 and 2 checkpoints defined in the Guidelines. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines explain how to make Web Content accessible to users with disabilities. Conformance to these guidelines will help make the web more accessible to users with disabilities and will benefit all users.
In addition to conforming with the W3C guidelines, this website also conforms to guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act which requires agencies and organisations to make information available to people with disabilities.
Access Keys
Some users may find it difficult in using a pointing device such as a mouse, therefore in order to assist user's access particluar key sections of our website, Access Keys have been built into the site. The way in which the Access Keys are accessible depends on your chosen internet browser you are using to view this site.
For users that may be using a windows based system using Nescape 6+, Mozilla, Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 then press the ALT and the desired Access Key at the same time. If however you are using Internet Explorer 5 or 6, then press the ALT and the desired Access Key followed by the Enter Key. For Apple Macintosh based systems, press the CTRL Key and then your desired Access Key.

Validation
You can see an additional logo from the W3C ,saying CSS with a tick. This logo indicates the validated syntax code for this website, meaning that the CSS code used to develop this website is valid and used correctly to aid in the websites accessibility.

Text Sizing
This website has a text sizing function available through your chosen internet browser. If you are having difficuly read the text on this page and would like to increase the size please follow the following.
Internet Explorer
- Select the "View" option at the top of your internet browser.
- Select "Text Size" from the dropdown menu which appears.
- In the sub-menu of Text Size menu select your desired size, smallest, smaller, medium or larger or largest (medium is the default setting)
Alternatively, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and use the mouse wheel (if you have one) to increase/decrease the text size.
Firefox
- Select the "View" option at the top of your internet browser.
- Select "Text Size" from the dropdown menu which appears.
- Select "increase" or "decrease" to alter the size of the text.
Alternatively, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and use the mouse wheel (if you have one) to increase/decrease the text size.
Netsacpe 7
- Select the "View" option at the top of your internet browser.
- Select "Text Zoom" from the dropdown menu which appears.
- In the sub-menu which appears select which text size you wish to use.
- Alternatively select "Other" and manually enter the text size you want to use (as a percentage of the orginal)

Skip Navigation
Screen readers often have difficuly when ready websites that contain a lot of navigation links, therefore a Skip Navigation feature has been built into our website. The Skip Navigation link will quite literally allow users of screen readres to jump over all the vaigation links so that they do not have to listen to the navigation links each time they view a page.
Acronyms and Abbreviations
As part of the W3C WAI Web content Accessibility Guidelines, all acronyms and abbreviations must have their full meaning specified. Therefore, each abbreviation and acronym within this website will appear in red text. When your mouse hovers over the abbreviation, the cursor will change to a question mark and a tooltip will appear stating the complete meaning of the abbreviation or acronym.
