The Durham Light Infantry (1758-1968)

the durham light infantry cap badgeDuring the history of the Regiment, 11 men of the Durham Light Infantry have been awarded the Victoria Cross.

Three of these brave men were Tynesiders.

  • Pte Thomas Young VC (WW1) from Boldon Colliery
  • 2/Lieut Richard W Annand VC (WW2) from South Shields
  • Pte Adam Wakenshaw (WW2) from Newcastle

The Memorials of these men are in there home towns or elsewhere.
